Sniffing

Sniffing is one of the potential threats allowing a malicious user to take advantage of a special computer program to capture and analyze all the data flowing through the network.

A common feature of many such analyzers is switching the network card into the so-called promiscuous mode, where the device in question receives all frames from the network, including frames which are not addressed to it.

Even though such sniffers typically comprise a priceless tool for network administrators, they can also be used for monitoring network activity by unauthorized people, which is against the existing law. Sniffers allow the attackers not only to capture and analyze data frames but also their decoding according to the applicable RFCs ( Request For Comments) of the particular networking protocols.

Counteraction:
The method allowing to protect against such a critical, potential infringement of privacy, allowing for eavesdropping private passwords, secrets, personal information, interception of transmitted electronic mail (along with attachments) or even conversations with the use of the largest Polish communicator, relies on application of properly selected cryptographic methods.

Technical protection:
More about our individual offer of protection mechanism and means of counteracting impersonation attacks can be found in the sub pages [process security audit] and [network technology audit].
