Denial of Service attacks
The Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are one of the most grave form of attacks, destabilizing the operation of a company network or even the complete sale network.
Such an attack is directed at the particular computer system, e.g. company online shop, webpage or the main company server. It prevents their proper operation and provision of services.Such a type of attacks are typically based on overloading the application providing particular data or processing customer information. Very frequently, critical application errors are exploited to prevent its proper operation.
In computer networks, DoS type attacks are typically initiated by overloading the network with excessive amount of information, aiming at saturating the bandwidth available to the host under attack. Then, it becomes impossible to use its services even though it is used to accept new requests for service provision. There are several types of DoS attacks i.e. Distributed Denial of Service (DDos) and Distributed Reflection Denial of Service (DRDoS).
Counteraction:
Since the potential attempt of DoS attack is commonly used to blackmail companies, it is worth protecting Yourself against such attacks through among the others verification of correct configuration of Your network devices. History knows a lot of examples of banks, brokers, and auction websites as well as many other companies being blackmailed with such an attack, especially where a break in the operation of a transaction system can directly cause financial loss.
Technical protection:
Further information about the individual protections selected depending on the risk, character and size of Your economic activity can be found in sub page [audit of network technologies].
